John O’Groats

Perched right at the top of the county, John O’Groats is the most northerly village of the mainland UK. It’s a bustling little community with fantastic eateries and shops, a distillery, petting farm and beautiful coastal walks. As the starting point to our Caithness Highlights tour, it’s the perfect place to begin your northern adventures.

Wick’s historic Pulteneytown

The day tour finishes in the lively town of Wick, which features a picturesque harbour that was once the busiest herring port in Europe. Today, it’s the jewel in the crown of Thomas Telford’s Pulteneytown. Soak up the atmosphere on the cobbled streets, then stop at Wick Heritage Centre for a labyrinth of rich history, photography and folklore.

Castle of Mey

A quick drive west takes us to the Castle of Mey, the castle estate famously rescued from dereliction by the late Queen Mother. Today, the Castle is a popular visitor attraction featuring manicured gardens, an animal centre, tearoom and gift shop. Private dining experiences are also now available at the sprawling Royal estate.

Go bespoke

Our tour packages are designed to bring you the best experiences the county has to offer, but they are not set in stone! If there other attractions you’d like to visit, or if you have specific requirements, we will be more than happy to discuss this with you and create a tailor-made experience you will never forget.

Dunnet Bay and Forest

Moving on to Dunnet, you will see for yourself the charm that first captivated the Queen Mother. Dunnet Bay offers up two miles of sweeping white sands bordered by towering dunes - and big waves that are a mecca for surfers. Back on land, Dunnet Forest is a secluded woodland walk rich with wildlife and intricate carvings.
